Dr. Robert R. Strome, M.D., is a graduate of New York University with a BA degree in history. He earned his MD degree at Padua University School of Medicine in Padua, Italy. He completed his internship at The Long Island Jewish Queens Hospital Center in 1966 and was selected as Intern of the Year. He continued his education at Long Island Jewish Hospital as a resident in Ophthalmology and became chief resident in his senior year, 1969. Dr. Strome continued his ophthalmologic education as a Fellow in pediatric Ophthalmology at the Children’s Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

In 1974, Dr. Strome became a charter member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and has served on the American Academy’s Committee of Learning Disabilities and Dyslexia. He has held a faculty position (Clinical Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology) at the University Health Science Center SUNY, Stonybrook. Dr. Strome presently is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Strome is a diplomate of The American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of The American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Costenbader Fellow (Children’s Hospital, Washington, D.C.), a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, The International College of Surgeons, a Speciality Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. He is also a Fellow and/or member of many other organizations, both in the United States and abroad.

Dr. Strome has published numerous papers and given more than 150 lectures in various aspects of his field with particular interest in the sensory aspects of strabismus, Retinopathy of Prematurity, and dyslexia. Dr. Strome is the author of the ophthalmology Chapter of “The Eye” published by The American Academy of Pediatrics Book of Baby and Child Care, 1989 and has been a major teacher for the NY citywide resident review course for the ophthalmology boards, for which he teaches binocular vision and sensory status.

Honors and awards include listings in : Consumers Research Council- America’s Top Ophthalmologists 2003-2005; Top Doctors- Center for the Study of Services- Consumer Checkbook; Best Doctors in America- Northeast Region 1996-1997; and How to find the Best Doctors, NY Metro Area- Castle Connelly Medical Ltd. Dr. Strome was the recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Lifelong Education for the Ophthalmologist-2004 cont. Ed. Award. Dr. Strome is the recipient of the Certificate of Appreciation for 35 consecutive years in membership in the American Academy of Medicine.

For the past thirteen years, Dr. Strome has participated in medical mission tours and lectures, sponsored by Volunteer Health Program (VHP) in Palestine, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. Dr. Strome has two daughters and seven grandchildren. He resides in New York with his wife Jennifer.
